Standard Meeting Patterns: What They Are and How They Are Used

Once defined, standard meeting patterns can be used as a filter for courses when working in the Mazevo Optimizer.

Overview of Meeting Patterns

Standard meeting patterns are the preferred days and course times given preferential treatment when making room assignments. For example, courses taught on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 8:50 a.m. are a typical or standard meeting pattern. If the course time was 8:25 a.m. to 9:15 a.m., that would be a non-standard meeting time.

Adding Standard Meeting Patterns

1) Navigate to Academics > Terms.

2) Click Standard Meeting Patterns.

3) Click Add Pattern and select a Term in the dropdown. Mazevo will display all the unique Day of Week and Start and End Times combinations for the entire term.

4) Use the checkboxes to select one or more rows and click Add. Once you select rows and click Add, the grid will be refreshed, and the previously selected rows will be removed.

The standard meeting patterns are not specific to a term.

To remove a meeting pattern, click on the trash can icon.

Filtering Courses in the Optimizer

Once Standard Meeting Patterns have been defined, the optimizer will display three new filter buttons at the top of the grid. You can use these buttons to filter the list of courses with standard or non-standard meeting patterns.

In practice, you may select the Non-Standard filter and exclude those courses from being optimized (assigned a room).  Once the standard patterns are assigned spaces, you can manually assign rooms to the non-standard courses.  You can also lock the room assignments for the initial optimization and run the optimizer a second time to assign rooms to the non-standard courses automatically.
